Royal Enfield’s production capacity now stands at 8.25 lakh units

Led by Royal Enfield, TVS Motor and Honda MotoCorp, two-wheeler manufacturers recorded a significant jump in sales in August, due to a favourable monsoon and the forthcoming festive season.

TVS Motor Company, which makes two- and three-wheelers, saw 16% growth for August 2017 at 3.18 lakh units, said a company statement.

The company’s total exports grew by 33.7% (from 34,097 units to 45,604 units) in August 2017.

Royal Enfield, which makes the iconic Bullet motorcycles, recorded a close to 22% growth in sales at 67,977 vehicles against 55,721 units sold in the comparable period a year earlier. While the domestic business grew 22%, international business rose 12%. Recently, the company commissioned its third plant near Chennai. With this, the total production capacity has increased to 8.25 lakh units.

Hero MotoCorp announced that it clocked highest ever sales during August. The company sold 6.79 lakh units against 6.16 lakh units, marking 10% growth.

India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. registered 4% growth in its domestic sales including Nepal at 77,887 units compared to 74,868 units. The growth was primarily driven by its innovative efforts, ongoing customer-centric activities and exciting product line-ups, said Roy Kurian, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, India Yamaha Motor.
