Tata Sons appoints Resident Director - North America

Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group, on Friday announced the appointment of James Shapiro as its Resident Director in North America.

A statement from Tatas said Mr. Shapiro will facilitate the Tata group’s future growth in North America. The North America office reports to Madhu Kannan, member, Group Executive Council, Tata Sons.

Prior to joining the Tata Group, Mr. Shapiro worked at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), first in Mumbai and later as an advisor based in New York. His responsibilities included global business development and BSE’s partnership with Deutsche Borse and S&P Dow Jones indices. He has an MA and M.Phil in economics from Yale University and a BA from Harvard University.

Mr. Shapiro’s earlier experience includes several years in investment banking at Galileo Global Advisors, a New York-based cross-border M&A advisory and 16 years at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in various senior roles. He also ran the Asia business for the NYSE for four years out of Tokyo.
