Sensex up 39 points in early trade

The BSE benchmark Sensex gained 39 points in early trade today on fresh buying in auto, capital goods, healthcare and IT stocks despite weak Asian advices.

The BSE benchmark Sensex resumed higher at 16,155.55 and hovered in a range between 16,256.38 and 16,113.82 before quoting at 16,185.77 at 1015 hours, translating into a net gain of 39.44 points, or 0.24 per cent, over its last close.

The NSE’s 50-share Nifty index also moved up by 13.80 points, or 0.29 per cent, to 4,853.40 at 1015 hours.

The major gainers in early trade were M&M (up 1.90 per cent), Tata Motors (1.88 per cent), BHEL (1.32 per cent), Coal India (1.24 per cent), Bharti airtel (1.00 per cent) and TCS (0.93 per cent).

Meanwhile, Asian shares edged lower in early trade today as caution prevailed ahead of a US Federal Reserve conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

The key benchmark indices in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia and China were down between 0.03 per cent and 1.08 per cent, while the indices in South Korea and Taiwan rose between 0.13 per cent and 0.23 per cent.
