Hospitality management firm Sarovar Hotels & Resorts on Tuesday said it will add 19 new properties to its portfolio across the country by 2010-end.
Sarovar Hotels also said it is in advanced stages of talks with an Africa-based hospitality company for a tie-up to open a chain of properties in religious destinations in India.
“We will open 19 new properties across India by end of this year with a total inventory of around 2,000 rooms. Of these, 17 will be under the management contract system where investment will be made by property owners, while we will manage the properties and give our brand name,” Sarovar Hotels & Resorts Managing Director Anil Madhok said.
He said Sarovar will also open two company-owned properties in Chandigarh and Chennai.
“We had earlier earmarked Rs. 100 crore for the two hotels, which will be owned by us. Of these, we have already invested Rs. 40 crore for the Chandigarh property,” Madhok said.
Sarovar currently has 41 hotels across the country, including two company-owned properties, with a total inventory of around 3,000 rooms.
Madhok said the company is in discussions with an Africa-based hospitality firm to open a new chain in India.
“This chain will cater exclusively to religious destinations and would be formed under a new entity and new brand. We may go for six hotels within the next five years and talks are in advanced stages,” he said.
Sarovar Hotels has five brands - Sarovar Premiere, Sarovar Portico, Hometel, Park Plaza and Park Inn. The last two brands are managed under a franchise agreement with US-based Carlson Hotels.
Madhok said, the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Delhi are a special focus of the group.
“By June, we will have 11 hotels up and running in Delhi- NCR with over 1,000 rooms. This will include Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida,” he said
