April 02, 2012 10:20 pm | Updated 10:20 pm IST - MUMBAI:

Anil Ambani-led Reliance Power (RPower) announced on Monday that its 1200 MW Rosa thermal power project at Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh is now fully operational as it commissioned the fourth and the last 300 MW unit on March 31, making it the company's first fully operating power plant.

The project is the first independent thermal power project in the region to be brought online. The company has invested Rs. 6,000 crore on the project making it the largest private sector investment in the state, the company said in a statement.

“Rosa, completed four months ahead of schedule, occupies a special place in RPower's portfolio as it is the first operating power plant of the company. The achievement of our teams in construction and commissioning of the project is unmatched in the Indian power sector. This gives us huge confidence to build ongoing and future projects,” RPower chief executive JP Chalasani said.

The entire power generated here will be provided to Uttar Pradesh accounting for over 15 per cent of the state's energy requirement, the release claimed.
