Anil Dhirubhai Ambani-owned Reliance Power, in an effort to diversify into other sources of energy and expand its portfolio, is planning to focus more on wind energy.

The company is also betting big on two of its thermal power plants that are likely to be commissioned in the next two years.

According to company officials the first in the line is the 600 MW Rosa Phase II project, which is close to completion and is well in time for scheduled commissioning this financial year. In addition, the progress on the country's largest gas-based Samalkot power project in Andhra Pradesh has been good.

The company posted a net profit of Rs.196 crore in the first quarter of this fiscal. As for the 3,960 MW Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project in Madhya Pradesh, the company said the construction activity was in full gear and the first unit was expected to be commissioned in 2012. The company is planning to set up a 200 MW wind power plant at Vashpet in Maharashtra with an investment of around Rs.1,500 crore.

At present, Reliance Power has 94 MW of wind energy-based power capacities.
