Continuing with the growth trajectory, Indian Railways have registered an increase of about nine per cent in its revenue earnings.
Railways have earned Rs 62,975.58 crore during April to December 2009 compared to Rs 57,901.88 crore for the same period last year, registering an increase of 8.76 per cent.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs 39,087.98 crore during April-December 2008 to Rs 42,488.97 crore during the same period in 2009, which is an increase of 8.7 per cent.
The total passenger earnings during first nine months of the financial year 2009-10 were Rs 17,497.18 crore compared to Rs 16,242.45 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 7.73 per cent.
Revenue earnings from other departments amounted to Rs. 1,703.45 crore during April-December 2009 compared to Rs. 1,475.33 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 15.46 per cent. Overall, the total revenue earning increase was about nine per cent.
The total approximate numbers of passengers booked during April-December 2009 were 5569.15 million compared to 5320.04 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 4.68 per cent.
In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the numbers of passengers booked during April-December 2009 were 2874.20 million and 2694.95 million compared to 2837.21 million and 2482.83 million during the same period last year, an increase of 1.30 per cent and 8.54 per cent respectively.
