Punjab government to establish an IT park at Rajpura

The Punjab government has decided to establish a self-contained Integrated Information Technology and Knowledge Industry Park spread over an area of 1276 acres at Rajpura.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday, said an official release.

Badal gave his approval in principle for acquisition of common land in contiguity of six villages in Sehra, Pabra, Sehri, Takhtu Majra, Akri and Akar for the construction of the prestigious industrial park for the IT enabled services industry.

The upcoming industrial park would house the companies operating in Business Process Outsourcing, Knowledge Process Outsourcing, Legal Process Outsourcing and Engineering Process Outsourcing.

Software companies, software testing companies, hardware manufacturing companies, multimedia, graphics, animation and gaming industry, eAdvertising, Marketing and ePublishing houses, consultancy firms and education and training institutions would also be established in the IT park.

Badal asked the Punjab Information and Communication Technology Corporation Ltd - the nodal agency to implement the project - to engage the services of a renowned international consultant for designing and developing the IT park.

He also suggested that it should invite a global tender for seeking an expression of interest from the interested consultants.

Briefing the Chief Minister about the prospects of the IT park, Principal Secretary Industries and Commerce S.S. Channy said the project would be developed in a phased manner with residential and social infrastructure facilities such as health care, health clubs and hotels.

He said efficient and reliable power, water, waste management and technology facilities would be provided to the prospective entrepreneurs.

A comprehensive network of logistic systems including roads, rail and air linkages would be ensured besides adequate focus on security and disaster management systems, he said.

Chief Secretary S.C. Agrawal informed the Chief Minister that the project would involve a huge investment and would be developed through a special purpose vehicle to ensure its expeditious implementation as discussed in the IT infrastructure task force under his chairmanship.
