Puducherry Government proposed to waive the sales tax on diesel sold to farmers through exclusive outlets to be set up for the purpose, Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam said today.

Replying to questions in the Assembly, he said the proposed outlets would sell diesel to farmers for operating farm related vehicles and equipment.

He said the government could not grant subsidy as such to the farmers on the price of diesel they purchased and hence it had planned to waive the sales tax on the retail price.

He was responding questions from T.Thiagarajan (Congress) and N G Panneerselvam (PMK).

Mr. Vaithilingam also told R.Siva (DMK) that he and Tourism Minister Malladi Krishna Rao would soon hold talks with Union Agriculture Minister and BCCI President Sharad Pawar to develop the site available at Kalapet near here into a world class cricket ground.

This could be developed under joint venture by the BCCI and the state government, he said.
