HYDERABAD: TELANGANA: 21/08/2015: Activities at Mehaboob market in Hyderabad was partially dull as the inflow of Onions has been weakened for past few weeks. During our visit to the market, when we enquired about import of Onion from other states, the market official told mostly we receive the crop from the neighbouring state of Maharastra and Andhra Pradesh, but due to low rain fall the crop has failed in those part of the country. Earlier we used to receive about hundred truck load of crop, which has been reduced to 40-50 lorry load per day. Eventually the prices also sky-rocketed and gone upto Rs.5800 per quintal for the best variety, which was Rs. 3200 per quintal just a month ago. Meanwhile the Telangana state government has set up the Onion shops at Raythu Bazar and selling at a subsidised price of Rs. 20 per kg to curb the crisis.
