Prices of non-subsidised cooking gas cylinders went up by over Rs.120 each when the State-owned oil marketing companies announced the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) rates for October on Monday.
This is the first revision after the government, on September 14, introduced a cap of six subsidised cylinders in a financial year for each household. In the remaining six months of the current fiscal, a household would get three subsidised cylinders.
Following Monday’s revision, the price of the (14.2 kg) non-subsidised refill rose by Rs.127 each in Delhi and Mumbai, while the increase was Rs.123 in Kolkata and Chennai.
The new prices are: Delhi Rs.883.50; Mumbai Rs.894; Kolkata Rs.913; and Chennai Rs.877.50, sources in Indian Oil Corporation said.
The price of the 14.2 kg cylinder meant for the exempted category users such as government hospitals, schools and orphanages was also revised on Monday.
In Chennai, the increase for this consumer segment was Rs.161.50 with each cylinder priced at Rs.1,213.50.
Sources in the oil company said the price would be subject to revision every month similar to that of the commercial (19 kg) cylinders. The price of the 19 kg cylinder this month is Rs.1536.50 in Delhi as against Rs.1,334 last month. In Mumbai, it is Rs.1,619.50 (Rs.1,407); Kolkata Rs.1598.50 (Rs.1403); and Chennai Rs.1,749.50 (Rs.1,533).
