US dollar ends cheaper against rupee

The US dollar ended cheaper against the rupee at Rs 53.21/22 per dollar but the Pound Sterling finished higher at Rs 83.07/09 per pound at the close of the Interbank Foreign Exchange market (Forex) here on Tuesday.

In the opening trade, the rupee appreciated by 17 paise to Rs. 53.13 per dollar, as the U.S. currency weakened against euro and other major currencies.

Dealers said firm domestic equity markets also supported the rupee.

The rupee had lost 20 paise to close at two-week low of Rs. 53.30/31 per dollar yesterday.
