Snapping its eight-day losing streak, the BSE benchmark Sensex recovered by nearly 42 points in early trade on Monday on fresh buying by funds amid a mixed trend in other Asian markets.

The 30-share index, which had lost over 1,139 points in the previous eight sessions, recovered by 41.67 points, or 0.22 per cent, to 19,205.69 with stocks of consumer durables, auto and IT sector firms leading the recovery.

Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty rose by 9.90 points, or 0.17 per cent, to 5,687.80.

Brokers said fresh buying by funds amid a mixed trend in other Asian bourses mainly influenced the sentiment.

In other Asian markets, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was up by 0.16 per cent, while Japan’s Nikkei was down by 1.02 per cent in early trade.
