The Bombay Stock benchmark Sensex on Friday fell over 30 points in choppy trade amid mixed trends from global bourses.

The 30-share index closed at 17,554.30, down by 30.57 points, after showing signs of rising in early trade.

Brokers said investors were cautious ahead of two big third quarter earnings announcements by TCS and HDFC Bank later in the evening.

The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty too fell by 7.70 points to 5,252.20

Heavyweights RIL and Infosys closed with losses but buying support in RCOM, ACC, TCS and Tata Motors saved the market from a further fall.

Reliance Industries fell by Rs. 11.65 to Rs. 1,109.20 and Infosys Technologies Rs. 13.70 to Rs 2,675.40.

Among 30 Sensex stocks, 12 closed with gains and other 18 ended with losses.
