The rupee on Friday rose by 41 paise to breach the 58 level against the dollar at 58.70 in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market on increased selling of the US currency by exporters and banks.

Besides, a slew of measures announced by the RBI to curb slide in rupee, weakening of the dollar against yen and other currencies in overseas markets on poor US data also helped the local current to recover, forex dealers said.

The rupee had gained 2 paise to close at 59.11 in previous session.
