Rupee trims initial gains, still up by 19 paise

The rupee trimmed initial gains but was still trading up by 19 paise to 64.74 against the US currency on bouts of dollar selling by some banks and exporters amid higher domestic equities.

The rupee resumed higher by 18 paise at 64.75 per dollar as against last Friday’s closing level of 64.93 at the Interbank Forex Market (Forex) market.

The Indian unit hovered between 64.64 and 64.80 per dollar during morning deals. Tt was quoting at 64.74 per dollar at 1130 hrs.

The dollar index was trading steady at 93.14 against a basket of six currencies in early trade.

The BSE Sensex retreated from record high level but was trading higher by 88.50 points, or 0.27 per cent, at 32,521.19 as investors booked profits in RIL , HDFC Bank and SBI and Axis Bank.
