The rupee appreciated by nine paise to 60.96 against the US dollar in early trade on Wednesday at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on increased selling of the American currency by exporters and banks.

Besides, the dollar’s weakness against other currencies overseas and a higher opening in the domestic equity market supported the rupee, forex dealers said.

The rupee had recovered from one-month low to end with a modest gain of eight paise at 61.05 against the Greenback in Tuesday’s trade on fresh dollar selling by exporters.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex rose by 127.37 points, or 0.48 per cent, to 26,619.88 in early trade on Wednesday.
