The Indian rupee gained 3 paise to 46.90 against the U.S. dollar in early trade today on the Interbank Foreign Exchange, largely on the back of fresh foreign capital inflows into equities.

Dealers said the rupee strengthened against the US currency after fresh capital inflows by foreign funds into equities bolstered demand for the Indian currency. In addition, dollar selling by exporters helped the rupee rise.

The domestic currency had closed 19 paise higher at 46.93/94 in the previous session on the Friday.

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex rose by 63.11 points, or 0.34 per cent, to 18,194.09 in opening trade today.
