Rupee drops 4 paise against dollar in early trade

June 25, 2010 12:00 pm | Updated 12:00 pm IST - Mumbai

The rupee declined by 4 paise to 46.53 against the U.S. currency in morning trade on capital outflows from equities by foreign funds.

The rupee resumed lower at 46.53 per dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market from yesterday’s closing level of 46.49/50 per dollar.

Weakness in other Asian currencies against the dollar also put pressure on the rupee.

Forex dealers said weak opening on the stock markets and dollar’s gain against Asian currencies put pressure on the rupee sentiment.

Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange index Sensex tumbled 91.64 points, or 0.51 per cent, at 17,638.60.
