Rupee down by 9 paise against US dollar in early trade

The Indian Rupee fell marginally by 9 paise to Rs. 44.16 against the US dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today, weighed down by a weak trend at the bourses.

However, dollar’s losses against other currencies abroad restricted its losses.

The rupee had strengthened by 13 paise to close at Rs. 44.07/08 a dollar in the previous session on Friday on fresh sale of dollars by exporters and banks.

Forex dealers said the lower opening in the stock market exerted pressure on the rupee sentiment.
