NSE starts providing market data on mobile phones

In a major initiative, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Tuesday said that it has commenced providing market data on mobile phones from today.

It will pave the way for the exchange to start mobile trading for its 1.2 crore investors from early-October.

“For the first time in India, getting market data on a mobile will no longer be the preserve of a privileged few.

From September 14, the National Stock Exchange has started providing market data to anyone who registers their mobile number on the NSE website, nseindia.com,” an NSE official told PTI here.

On the home page of the NSE website, an icon ‘register for NSE mobile’ in the ‘what’s new’ section is available. When someone registers, he will get an SMS to download an application. On downloading this application, one can see market watch and get quotes on the mobile. The entire process can be completed in a matter of minutes, the official said.

The real time market data can be accessed for any of the asset classes, equities, derivatives, currency or exchange traded funds.

Through this mechanism, market data can be received by anyone who has a mobile with a GPRS connection, which effectively covers nearly 99 per cent of mobile users, including those who do not have high-end mobiles.
