Base metals strengthen on global trend, pick up in demand

Base metals, led by copper rose upto Rs.2 per kg in the local non-ferrous metal market today, supported by firming trend at the London Metal Exchange.

Trading sentiment buoyed as copper advanced for the fifth day in London, after continuous fall in its inventories at the LME.

Meanwhile, copper for three-month delivery gained 1.2 per cent to $ 6,725 and nickel rose 0.8 per cent to $ 19,300 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.

In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed were up by Rs. 2 each to Rs. 363, Rs. 382 and Rs. 341, while nickel (4x4) traded higher by the same margin at Rs. 870-984 per kg, respectively.

Zinc ingot, lead ingot and lead imported also traded higher by rupee one each at Rs. 119, Rs. 115 and Rs. 118 per kg, respectively.

Tin ingot 795, zinc ingot 119.00, nickel plate (4x4) 870 - 984, gun metal scrap 226 bell metal scrap 228, copper wire scrap 363, copper wire bar 382, copper mixed scrap 341, utensil scrap 224, Chadripital 175.

Lead ingot 115, lead imported 118, aluminium ingots 100, sheet cutting 103, aluminium wire scrap 100 and aluminium utensils scrap 100.
