MARG launches institute of design and architecture

Gets approval from the Council of Architecture

MARG, a leading diversified infrastructure company, on Monday launched MARG Institute of Design and Architecture, Swarnabhoomi (MIDAS) at MARG Swarnabhoomi, 17 km from Kalpakkam near Chennai.

Addressing presspersons G. R. K. Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director, said considering the huge demand for architects and interior designers, MIDAS was launched in Swarnabhoomi, which is fast emerging as an education cluster for a new economy. Besides domestic and international exposures, students would get practical experience as there are lot of infrastructure available in MARG Swarnabhoomi, he said.

Ideal learning centre

Mr. Reddy said MIDAS would focus on nurturing, inspiring and equipping students with the best of knowledge, tools and training. MIDAS was approved by the Council of Architecture (COA) and affiliated to the Anna University.

He said the Institute was in close proximity to architectural landmarks such as Mahabalipuram, Puducherry and Kancheepuram, making it an ideal learning centre. MIDAS was inaugurated by art director Thotta Tharani. Prof. Jayashree Deshpande, Director-in-charge, National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture (NIASA), Centre for Development Studies & Activities (CDSA) Campus, Pune and ex-Indian cricketer-cum-current Mumbai Indians coach Robin Singh were also present on the occasion.

Mr. Reddy said the campus, spread over 7 acres with an exclusive built-up space of 43,000 sq. ft., had facilities such as futuristic studio, 24/7 computer access, 1,000-acre campus environment, world-class library and residential accommodation facilities.

Welcoming the first batch of students, Mr. Reddy said MIDAS was offering 5-year Bachelor Degree programme in Architecture Studies (B.Arch-Architecture Studies) and 5-year Bachelor Degree programme in Interior Designing (B.Arch–Interior Designing Studies).
