Mahindra Electric introduced its electric car, the e2oPlus, at ₹7.70 lakh ex-showroom in Chennai.
The challenge for Mahindra Electric was to sell the idea of an electric car, Mahesh Babu, chief executive officer, told correspondents here. Making people understand the need for “sustainable mobility” was indeed very important, he said.
Mr. Babu underscored the need for developing an ecosystem with adequate infrastructure to encourage users to go in for electric cars in the evolving environment.
The company had increased its production capacity to 5,000 vehicles a year. Mahindra Electric was at the moment focussed on how much more money needed to be reinvested rather than on the break-even point.
Mr. Babu said Mahindra Electric would like to make its cars available globally. Nevertheless, he felt that meeting the aspirations of the Indian customers would itself keep it fully engaged at the moment.
Mahindra Electric is working on assorted fronts to make its electric car an acceptable and affordable proposition for Indian customers, the chief executive officer said.
