As the scope of work for law firms increase, Mumbai-based IC Legal and Bengaluru-based Universal Legal have joined hands to form IC Universal Legal, Advocates & Solicitors.
While IC Legal has a strong presence in Mumbai, Universal Legal, which was established in 2004 in Bengaluru, has offices in six cities apart from an international affiliation with US-based Chugh LLP.
The merger, which will be effective from September 21, will see the merged firm boast of 100 lawyers and 15 partners across seven offices in India.
IC Universal Legal will have its footprints in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, New Delhi, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh and affiliate offices in Los Angeles, Santa Clara, New Jersey, Atlanta and Washington, said a statement issued on Wednesday.
Universal Legal has represented several top tier companies and funds, while being counsel on some of the largest transactions in verticals including energy, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, micro finance and IT/ITES.

IC Legal, meanwhile, has emerged as one of the well-known law firms and has continued to maintain more than 20% share in the investment funds structuring/formation space, whilst also advising majority of the top 10 Indian mutual funds.
