The shares of the engineering and construction major Gammon India, which plunged 16.11 per cent in the morning trade, closed with an over six per cent decline on the Bombay Stock Exchange, as investors dumped its shares after one of the bridges it was constructing in Kota, Rajasthan collapsed last Thursday.
The scrip tumbled 6.05 per cent to close at Rs 225.10 today. During the intra-day trade the scrip had plunged 16.11 per cent to a low of Rs 201 on the BSE.
The collapse of an under-construction bridge over the Chambal last Thursday had killed nearly 30 people. Gammon India and Hyundai Engineering were the contractors of the bridge.
On the National Stock Exchange too, the scrip fell over six per cent. It ended the day at Rs 224.45, down 6.48 per cent. Over 24 lakh shares were traded on the two bourses today.
The benchmark Sensex closed with marginal gains at 17,401.56 points.
