‘Indian cos can help IT-BPO industry'

May 19, 2010 12:46 am | Updated 12:46 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Infosys Technologies chief mentor N. R. Narayana Murthy said Indian companies could help Pakistan strengthen its IT-BPO industry by sharing expertise and best practices with their Pakistani counterparts.

Speaking at the Indo-Pak business meet here, Mr. Murthy said both countries should focus on generating income that could be used to build vital infrastructure such as roads, schools and hospitals. Stating that India had achieved tremendous success in the IT-BPO industry, Mr. Murthy said Pakistan, like India, had a talented pool of workers who spoke English and could be hired at competitive cost. “There is an ever increasing demand for IT-BPO services particularly as Western nations produce fewer IT graduates. All that needs to be done is to develop Pakistan as a destination of choice for international clients,'' he added.

Asked if Infosys would set-up centres in Pakistan, Mr. Murthy said the company might look at it at an appropriate time when the environment was conducive.
