IMAX has signed two new deals with INOX Leisure Limited and Cinépolis India for a total of nine new IMAX theatres to be installed in new complexes across India.
The announcement, which follows a 5-theatre agreement with PVR Cinemas in February, marks 14 new theatres for the company since the beginning of 2018, and nearly doubles its footprint since this time last year to 40 theatres, out of which 15 are open and 25 are contracted to open, the company said.
The deal with INOX includes two theatres located in Delhi and one each in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Gurugram.
“We are very encouraged by the rapid pace of our expansion in India, where we’ve nearly doubled our contracted network in the last year,” IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond said in a statement. Inclusive of today’s agreement, INOX has contracted for a total of 10 IMAX theatres, with two open and eight scheduled to open. So far as the deal with Cinepolis India is concerned, the IMAX theatres will be located in new complexes in Bengaluru, Kolkata, Navi Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram.
