GAIL posts 12 % rise in net profit

GAIL (India) on Monday registered a 45 per cent rise in its net profit to Rs. 910.82 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2010, against Rs. 630.02 crore in the year-ago period. Total income increased to Rs. 6,670.69 crore from Rs. 6,345.95 crore.

The company has declared a final dividend of Rs. 5.50 per share. It paid an interim dividend of Rs. 2 per share. In 2008-09, the total dividend was Rs. 7 per share.

For the year ended March 31, 2010, the company posted a net profit of Rs. 3,139.84 crore, 12 per cent higher than Rs. 2,803.70 crore in the previous fiscal. Total income also rose to Rs. 25,537.50 crore from Rs. 24,695 crore. The increase in net profit during the third quarter of the current financial year was mainly due to the increase in the quantum of sales of natural gas, LPG transmission and LHC. During the fourth quarter, revenues from LPG transmission have increased by 23 per cent to Rs. 122 crore from Rs. 99 crore in the corresponding period last year. Net sales from LPG and liquid hydrocarbons business during the quarter under review have increased by 20 per cent to Rs. 920 crore from Rs. 768 crore in the year-ago period.

Net sales of petrochemicals increased by 17 per cent to Rs. 822 crore from Rs. 705 crore. Revenue from natural gas transmission business increased by 14 per cent to Rs. 740 crore from Rs. 651 crore. Sales from natural gas stood at Rs. 4,665 crore against Rs. 4,743 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
