Emirates Sky Cargo, the cargo division of Emirates Airlines, plans to introduce paperless e-freight system in all the 10 airports it is operating from in India by the current financial year-end. The new system has already been in operation in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Divisional Senior Vice-President of Emirates Sky Cargo Ram C. Menen said the division was already handling 3 per cent of its total cargo in e-freight system and 13.5 per cent with regard to 44 destinations in 37 countries where it had tie-ups with DHL. It had plans to double the e-freight usage during 2011-12. By carrying a freight of 1.76 million tonnes during 2009-10, Emirates Airlines had become the number one cargo operator in India and it was planning to hold on to the rank in the current financial year too. Stating that India accounted for about 10 per cent of Emirates' total cargo revenue Mr. Menen said the division was handling about 1.12 lakh tonnes of in-bound and out-bound cargo every month in India. The airlines at present had seven dedicated cargo planes and had placed orders for six more, of which two would join the fleet in the next 12 months. Besides, it was planning to go in for another 12 cargo .
