The new hatchback of Datsun, which comes with five seats and 1.2 litre engine, was premiered last July in New Delhi by Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO of Renault-Nissan Alliance.

Nissan, on Tuesday, said that Datsun Go, the first all-new hatchback of Japanese auto maker’s revived iconic Datsun brand for the low budget car buyers in the Indian market, would be available for sale from the second week of March.

Sub-Rs.4 lakhs

The company also said the pricing strategy for the model remained intact, and the price would be substantially below Rs.4 lakh. “We expect Datsun brand to drive our growth in India, and to account for about 50 per cent of our total domestic sales (by 2016). Our Chennai R&D team has played a big role in developing the car completely for the Indian market,” said Toshiyuki Shiga, Vice-Chairman, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., at the first factory roll-out of Datsun here.

Vincent Cobee, Global Head of Datsun, said sales and marketing strategy for Datsun Go was being worked out with the existing dealers of Nissan whether to sell the car through the existing space or separately.
