Two wheeler manufacturer India Yamaha Motor, 100 per cent subsidiary of Japan’s Yamaha Motor Corporation, has aimed to achieve a double digit market share in the current financial year, according to a company official.

‘Including all our two wheelers, we are having a market share of six per cent (across the country) now. This year we are aiming to reach at least 10 per cent”, India Yamaha Motor Zonal Business Head (South) Roy Kurian told reporters here last night.

He said the company was also aiming to increase its market share in the southern region.

According to him, India Yamaha holds a market share of 3.5 to four per cent market share in the northern region while the remaining is contributed from the southern region.

To a query he said that the company has ‘serious’ plans in making its foray into the scooter segment.’Yes we have serious plans (on launching a scooterette)”, Kurian said declining to elaborate. The company would make a formal announcement in this regard shortly, he said.

The official was here to launch the company’s 110 cc bike ’YBR 110cc’ in Tamil Nadu market.

The two wheeler would be targeted to both ‘city and rural’ customers, he said and added that 40 per cent of the company’s total sales was contributed from Southern Region.

He said the company has set a target of selling three lakh two wheelers in the country. ‘We want to grow like last year”, he said.

Priced at Rs 40,960 (Ex-showroom Chennai), the new bike would be available in three colours -- Red, Black and Red and Black.
