Wipro formally announced the inauguration of its delivery centre here on Saturday.
Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development D. Purandeswari inaugurated the centre. Welcoming Wipro to the city, the Minister said that though the company was allotted land in 2006, the starting of operations was delayed due to various factors.
2,000-seater centre
The 2,000-seater delivery centre would formally start with 100 trainees and by the end of December, the number was expected to be increased to 300, the Minister said addressing the media.
Taking note of the restriction on the usage of power, she wrote a letter to Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy requesting him to take steps to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the IT industry, especially in Tier-II cities such as Visakhapatnam.
The company proposed to recruit young graduates locally for the centre, Vice-President and Global Head of Operations of Wipro Hariprasad Hegde said.
