Eyeing fast growth in the mobile handset market, Voice Mobile is planning to set up a manufacturing facility to meet the growing demand. It is currently under expansion mode, setting up stores across India and cementing partnerships with leading retailers and distributors.

“There is huge demand for mobile handsets. Though we currently import handsets from China, we will soon be setting up our own manufacturing facility with an investment of over Rs. 100 crore,” Voice Mobile Country Head Manoj Seal told The Hindu. Having started operation in the Indian market about six months ago, the home-grown mobile handset firm has already sold almost three-lakh handsets.

“Going by the demand, we see our monthly sales touching five-lakh handsets within a year from the current level of around 50,000. We see this growth happening soon as we will be present in every corner of the country. We are expanding fast... we have already covered 50 per cent of the market, and by the next couple of months our handsets will be available across India. Apart from major mobile handset retailers, we also plan to sell handsets through tie-ups with all leading mobile operators,” Mr. Seal said.

India is adding over 1.5-crore new mobile subscribers every month, while almost similar number of handsets is sold every month, of which 80 per cent are below Rs. 6,000. “Currently, we have 11 handsets priced between Rs. 1,500 and Rs. 6,000, but soon we will be adding more handsets in our portfolio, including smartphones at affordable rates. We are targeting the low-end and the mid-market category with our products which forms a sizable market,” Mr. Seal added.
