Automaker TVS Motor Company today received an award from the Tamil Nadu government for its contribution in the areas of healthcare, education, environment, infrastructure and economic growth.
Srinivasan Services Trust (SST), the social arm of the company, had joined hands with research organisations, NGOs, financial bodies, governmental agencies and local institutions, to help villagers become self reliant.
“It has made a difference to the lives of 55,740 families in the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh,” the company said in a press release.
The initiative has also had far-reaching impact on the environment as well by preventing soil erosion, thus helping farmers earn a steady income.
“Over 1,00,000 hectares of degraded forests have been reforested. Successful implementation of watershed development programmes has raised the water table and prevented soil erosion in 5,800 hectares of land,” the release said.
The Trust has partnered government bodies in construction of roads, drinking water facilities, proper sewage and sanitation, improving school, balwadis, health centres and community buildings in cooperation with the local communities.
The award was given away by Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin to TVS Motor’s Chairman Venu Srinivasan.
