TVS Motor Company has recorded a growth of 9.25 per cent in revenues which stood at Rs. 1,129.90 crore in the quarter ended September 30, 2009, against Rs. 1,034.20 crore in the corresponding quarter in the previous year.
As a result of continuous focus on value and cost-effective engineering, together with reduction in raw material prices, inventory reduction and improvement in sales realisation, the profit after tax has more than doubled to Rs. 24.60 crore from Rs. 10.40 crore.
The company witnessed a growth of 4.7 per cent in two-wheeler sales in the second quarter of the current fiscal, recording sales of 3.91 lakh units as compared to 3.74 lakh units in the year-ago period. Motorcycles sales stood at 1.55 lakh units against 1.81 lakh units. Scooters sales grew 12 per cent at 86,389 units (76,853 units). Three wheeler sales stood at 3,259 units (1,226 units).
Dip in exports
Exports, however, continued to be affected in the second quarter registering lower sales of 35,080 two-wheelers against 52,249 units.
In the coming quarter, the company plans to launch two new products.
