Toyota on Monday said it would resume normal operations in India from May 20, after its production was affected due to shortage of component supplies from Japan post-tsunami that hit the island nation in March. The Japanese car major plans to launch its new compact car Etios Liva next month.
Sourcing parts is getting back on track and production will return back to normal levels starting May 20. Plans are afoot to recover loss of production and reduce the waiting period. Its Bangalore plant will function on all weekdays and some of the non-working Saturdays, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said in a statement. Toyota has joint venture with Kirloskar Motor.
The devastating tsunami had hit Toyota's component manufacturing in Japan forcing the company to cut its output in India by 70 per cent between April 25 and June 4. TKM, which primarily imports engine and transmissions from Japan and other regions, saw its production curtailed by about 10,000 units.
