Samsung India on Wednesday unveiled the world's thinnest 3D LED television with a screen as thin as 7.98 millimetres here.
Launched in the new C9000 series, the LED 3D television comes with a 55 inch screen size and stainless steel bezel, which would be available in the market in about five days.
“The new offering from Samsung has the capability to convert 2D content to 3D content live through CD chip,” Samsung India Deputy Managing Director Ravinder Zutshi told presspersons during the launch here. The other features include touch screen remote with a 3 inch LCD screen. Samsung is making a combo offer of C9000 along with blue ray device and three 3D goggles at Rs. 4.3 lakh as against Rs. 4.79 lakh.
According to Mr. Zutshi, the market size for LED TVs could be about 3.5 lakh sets to 4 lakh sets out of about three million sets in the flat television segment. “We (Samsung) are hoping to sell about two lakh sets in the LED segment out of which about 15 per cent would be LED 3D sets,” he said.
“We have been able to sell about 7,000 to 8,000 televisions and hope to sell about 30,000 by the end of this year,” he said when asked about the performance of 3D television in the market since Samsung launched them in April.
Commenting on the issue of content available for the 3D segment, he said efforts were being made to increase the 3D content, and according to estimates about 20 per cent of Hollywood movies would be available in the 3D format by 2014.
“Some studios are also trying to convert good classics into 3D format,” Mr. Zutshi added.
