BP (British Petroleum), one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies, has undertaken a programme to consolidate its information technology (IT) vendors for application development and application maintenance (ADAM).
It has now selected Infosys, TCS, Wipro and IBM among its strategic ADAM vendors.
According to a media release from TCS, BP undertook a rigorous selection process which assessed TCS on capability to deliver innovation for efficient management of applications, oil and gas sector knowledge and reduce cost through effective leverage of multiple levers including global network delivery model.
Commenting on the contract, N. Chandrasekaran, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director, TCS, has stated in a release that the engagement with BP underscored the company’s ability to help global corporations become more competitive in the current economic scenario by reducing complexity through optimisation of its IT landscape and focus on delivering value through continuous innovation in services.
“Our selection as a strategic IT vendor for BP demonstrates our strong domain expertise and highlights the investments we have been making in the technology-led energy sector”, he said in the release.
TCS’ energy vertical serves international and national energy companies across the industry’s value chain. It also works with oil field service operator companies on solutions that help increase the production and reliability of upstream operations.
Operational efficiencies
According to Kris Gopalakrishnan, CEO and Managing Director, Infosys, the company has a long-standing relationship with BP, delivering consulting and technology services.
“We are well positioned to use our global sourcing expertise and transformational capabilities in the oil and gas domain to deliver significant improvement in operational efficiencies to BP as part of this new agreement”, he said in a release.
Infosys, which has entered into a five-year applications outsourcing and support agreement, has stated that it would manage and operate a large portion of business systems for BP.
The joint CEO of Wipro Technologies, Suresh Vaswani, has stated that the partnership would not only strengthen its existing relationship with BP but also significantly expand the scope to help BP in its transformational journey.
“Our extensive capabilities and experience in the oil and gas domain will enable us to deliver significant value to the energy major’s business”, he has stated in a release.
IBM, the U.S. technology major also announced that BP has awarded it a five-year contract to manage and run all of the oil giant’s enterprise applications and integrated service desk responsibilities. IBM Global Business Services will manage the oil giant’s SAP applications, including enhancements and continuous improvement both at client sites and from IBM’s network of global delivery centres.
