A partial lock out forced India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki to report 40.8 per cent decline in total sales for August at 54,154 units while Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra have significantly improved their sales.
Tata Motors’ total sales (including exports) of commercial and passenger vehicles in August were 71,826 vehicles, higher by 12 per cent over August 2011.
The company’s domestic sales of commercial and passenger vehicles were 67,453, higher by 13 per cent, over 59,874 units sold in the year-ago period.
Sales of passenger vehicles are 22,311 units, up 33 per cent over 16,829 units sold in August last year. Out of this, Sumo, Safari, Aria, and Venture range sales were 4,584 units higher by 38 per cent over 3,321 units sold in August 2011.
Jaguar Land Rover sales in India continued their upward trend, Tata Motors said.
The company’s exports at 4,373 vehicles are higher by 4 per cent as compared to 4,204 vehicles.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (M&M) has reported a 22 per cent rise in sales numbers, which stood at 45,836 units during August against 37,684 units in the year-ago period.
Domestic sales stood at 42,826 units as against 35,756 units, up 20 per cent. The passenger vehicles segment (which includes the utility vehicles and Verito) has registered a growth of 39 per cent, having sold 21,831 units against 15,664 units. Exports have also grown by 56 per cent, the company said.
