Even as the market is proving tough by the day in a decelerating economic environment in the wake of assorted negative factors, most car makers have managed to report higher sales numbers for July. Tata Motors leads the pack, however. It has reported double-digit growth in sales number, reporting robust figures across the range.
Market leader Maruti Suzki, still reeling under bloody labour strife, has come out with lower sales numbers for July. While Hyundai Motor has shown a 6.4 per cent jump in sales, Ford India, which is busy setting up its second plant in Gujarat, has reported lower domestic sales number for July.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd. reported a 6.4 per cent jump in sales in July at 52,845 units (49,666 units). Domestic sales were 27,585 units (25,642 units). Exports stood at 25,260 units (24,024 units). The segment-wise cumulative sales for July 2012 are: A2 segment 44,274 units (Eon, Santro, i10, i20); A3 segment 8,454 units (Accent and Verna); A5 segment 32 units (Sonata); and SUV 85 units (Santa Fe). According to Rakesh Srivastava, Vice-President (National Sales), HMIL, unless any major triggers get activated, market sentiment is not expected to improve very much.
Strike-hit Maruti Suzuki India Limited said it sold a total of 82,234 units in July, including 11,210 units for export. The company had sold a total of 75,300 units in July 2011.
Ford India said it sold 8,323 domestic wholesales and export units in July. It sold 6,236 wholesale units in the domestic market in July. The company sold 7,504 vehicles in the same month last year.
Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL) said it sold 3,481 units (1,593 units). Nissan Sunny, the entry-level sedan, led the sales with 2,436 units and Micra, the compact hatch-back, posted sales of 1,028 units.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor registered a growth of 7 per cent in July at 14,574 units (13,592 units). Innova registered a 39 per cent growth at 6,678 units (4,816 units). The Fortuner grew 24 per cent at 1,316 units (1,060 units). Etios series sold 6,024 units (6,646 units). Corolla Altis sold 540 units in July. “We have registered a growth in July based on the strength of Innova and Fortuner sales,’’ a release quoted Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director (Marketing), as saying.
Tata Motors said it sold 26,240 passenger vehicles in July, up by 53 per cent over 17,192 units sold in July last year. Sales of the Tata Nano were at 5,485 units, higher by 68 per cent as compared to 3,260 units sold in July last year. The Indica range sales were at 8,852 units (5,860 units). The Indigo range recorded sales of 6,816 units (4,877 units). The Sumo/ Safari/ Aria/ Venture range sales were at 5,087 units (3,195 units).
General Motors India sold 7,285 vehicles July 2012. The July sales include 4,354 units of Chevrolet Beat, 1,615 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 534 units of Chevrolet Spark, 501 units of Chevrolet Cruze and 176 units of Chevrolet Aveo. A company release, however, did not give the numbers for corresponding month last year.
