Tata Motors global sales up by 16 per cent in January

Tata Motors today said its global sales increased by 16 per cent to 98,998 units in January on robust demand for both commercial and passenger vehicles, over the same month previous fiscal.

Sales of luxury brands from Jaguar Land Rover were at 20,377 units in January, up 25 per cent from the same period a year ago, Tata Motors said in a statement.

While sales of luxury sedans of Jaguar brand increased by 3 per cent last month to 3,056 units, Land Rover sales jumped by 30 per cent to 17,321, it added.

It said total passenger vehicles sales stood at 53,183 units in January 2011, a growth of 17 per cent from the corresponding month last year.

Global sales of all commercial vehicles - Tata, Tata Daewoo and Tata Hispano Carrocera range - stood at 45,815 in January 2011, a growth of 14 per cent, against the same year-ago month.

During the April-January period, total vehicle sales rose 17 per cent to 868,583 units compared to the same period under review a year ago.

While total passenger car sales increased by 28 per cent to 459,822, commercial vehicle sales jumped 27 per cent to 408,761 during the nine month period of this fiscal.
