Sify Technologies, the Chennai-based provider of enterprise and consumer Internet services, has launched ‘consumer cloud' services platform that will be an ecosystem, including hosted data services, hosted applications and value-added services.

A ‘cloud' is an Internet-based computing whereby shared resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices on demand.

The Sify Consumer Cloud, branded as ‘Sify mylife', will help manage cyber cafes and also offer developers to host their services to customers of cyber cafés, according to Raju Vegesna, Chairman and Managing Director, Sify Technologies.

Addressing a press conference here on a Saturday, Mr. Vegesna said with the launch of Sify consumer cloud, an end-consumer could connect to Sify mylife from the next-generation avatar of cybercafés. Similarly, these cybercafés could connect to Sify mylife either through a Sify broadband connection or a specially designed ‘Sify Edge device'. Sify mylife will soon be accessible through Sify home broadband,, mobile phones and the cloud connection devices. The company has tied up with nearly 20 partners, including IRCTC, Yatra and Hungama.

Sify will pay a commission to the owner of a cyber café on every transaction facilitated in the café. The owner need not individually engage with different service providers. ‘Sify mylife' will bring in a large ecosystem of partners to do business with and earn revenue from each and every transaction, he said.

Natesh Mani, President, Consumer Infrastructure Business, Sify, said the company always worked towards enhancing the online experience for consumers. Nearly 37 per cent of Internet access happened from shared access points such as cybercafés. Connecting to Sify mylife would make a cybercafé a one-stop-shop for several lifestyle needs of its existing and potential consumers and open up multiple revenue streams.
