Shriram General net at Rs.61.53 cr

Shriram General Insurance Company (SGICL) has written a gross premium of Rs.1,266.44 crore for the year ended March 31, 2012 against Rs.780.89 crore in the previous year. The number of policies sold stood at 17.27 lakh against 12.19 lakh for the 2010-11. During the year company has made an underwriting profit of Rs.20.86 crore. The profit after tax for the period was Rs.61.53 crore. Net claims incurred during the period was Rs.378.36 crore. The investment assets of the Company as on March 31, 2012 stood at Rs.1128.56 crore.

Commenting on the company's performance, R. Thyagarajan, said the financial year witnessed a lot of regulatory changes in the general insurance sector especially with respect to motor third party insurance cover.
