The net profit of Idea Cellular shot up to Rs.191.4 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2012, from Rs.73.9 crore in the year-ago period.

Total income increased from Rs.4,577.1 crore to Rs.5,226.5 crore, up 14 per cent.

On a consolidated basis, the company posted a net profit of Rs.240 crore as compared to Rs.105.7 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2011.

Total income increased from Rs.4,619.9 crore to Rs.5,314 crore, up 15 per cent.

“With increasing proportion of rural subscribers, the seasonal slowdown in the second quarter has become more pronounced resulting in sharp contraction in the ‘voice minutes of use’ by 4 per cent to 125.6 billion minutes from 130.9 million units in the first quarter ,” the company said.

“The outlook for the quarter remained muted due to uncertain regulatory interventions and weak seasonal demand , resulting in slide in Idea’s sequential quarterly revenues by 3.4 per cent to Rs.5,348 crore from Rs.5,538 crore in the first quarter of 2012-13,” the company added.
