Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, will explore production of high-end products like seamless pipes to meet the requirements of defence, space technology and nuclear applications.
Capacity
Disclosing this at the Partners' Summit conducted at Ukkunagaram, RINL Chairman-cum-Managing Director P.K. Bishnoi said on Monday that it was increasing its capacity from the present three million tonnes to 6.3 million tonnes and later to 20 million tonnes in phases by 2020 with an estimated cost of Rs.25,000 crore.
The day-long summit was conducted with dealers, retailers, agents and vendors of the company to give them an exposure to the efforts being made by RINL to improve its quality and ensure uninterrupted supply of stocks. This was followed by a visit to the plant.
Mr. Bishnoi said VSP achieved a record turnover of Rs.11,500 crore during 2010-11.
Expansion
Stating that with expansion in progress, the company was in the process of installing cutting edge technologies to produce cleaner and greener steel, he said RINL was adopting pulverised coal injection (PCI) technology in the existing and the newly built blast furnace which would not only reduce the cost of production and but also enhance production levels.
Mr. Bishnoi said RINL had put up new power lines in the plant for uninterrupted production and presently generating 40 MW from the waste heat and it would be increased to 90 MW after new units under expansion go on stream. An order has been placed for producing 120 MW to meet future requirement. VSP Directors Y.R. Reddy (personnel), T.K. Chand (commercial), P. Madhusudan (finance), A.P.
