RIL chooses LTE technology for BWA rollout

Gearing up for the launch of high-speed broadband wireless access (BWA), Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) has chosen LTE-TDD (Long Term Evolution) mobile technology. Before announcing its commercial launch, the company held successful field trials of the LTE-TDD technology, showcasing outstanding indoor connectivity, outdoor mobility and applications services.

RIL and Ericsson India have been showcasing the results from the first field trial of LTE-TDD mobile technology and are likely to roll-out pan India BWA services soon. Notably, Reliance is the only firm to hold a nationwide BWA licence, having acquired a 95 per cent stake in Infotel Broadband that originally won the licence.

“We have been showcasing LTE-TDD network's exceptional performance by achieving the healthy balanced peak rates of 80 Mbps in the downlink and 20 Mbps in the uplink for the specified configuration.

This LTE trial not only demonstrated the superiority of LTE-TDD technology but also strengthened our confidence in the timely availability of LTE eco-system in India with Ericsson's global deployment expertise.

This is an important milestone for Indian telecom industry in showcasing LTE performance on a live network,” said RIL spokes- person.
