Reliance MediaWorks Ltd. (RMW), fastest growing film and entertainment services company and a part of the Reliance ADA group, strengthened its international presence with the opening of a dedicated film and media services facility in London that will offer front-end, processing, restoration, 2D to 3D conversion and post-production services to broadcasters and studios.
RMW acquired the assets of ilab U.K. Ltd., one of only two film processing facilities operating in London’s SOHO. Commenting on this international expansion, Anil Arjun, CEO, Reliance MediaWorks, said, “Our expansion is growing at a remarkable pace and we are happy to offer our services in the U.K., one of the world’s leading post-production markets. Through Reliance MediaWorks U.K., we would provide next generation services for the local film makers and broadcasters, while also catering to Hollywood and Hindi film businesses.”
Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Arjun said, “from a turnover of Rs. 100 crore three years ago, we are now clocking Rs. 200 crore per quarter. In terms of contribution to turnover, cinemas business contributes 55 per cent, media services 35 per cent and Big TV around 10 per cent. All verticals are enjoying good growth.” Mr. Arjun said RMW has a capital expenditure plan of around Rs. 250-300 crore up to March 2011.
“This will cover 100 more screens and the setting up a two lakh sq. ft. indoor shooting film studio in Mumbai as well as a BPO.”
Reliance MediaWorks U.K. can both offer high-end services within its own facility, as well as tapping into the quality and scale of services available through Reliance MediaWorks’ operations in India and the U.S.
Reliance MediaWorks operates BIG Cinemas, India’s largest cinema chain with 500 screens across India, the U.S., Malaysia and the Netherlands.
The BPO commenced business with 300 employees and got a prestigious order for digitisation and digital restoration of 1,000 films preserved by the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), Pune. It will be spread over 90,000 sq. ft. and employ 1,200 in a year providing a one-point solution for the transition from analog to digital and physical media to digital data.
