Panasonic India is planning to come out with environmentally friendly products that have long lifetimes and use less energy and water as part of its new green initiative in India.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Daizo Ito, CEO, said the company had already launched a new range of refrigerators using compressors with “inverter technology” which can save consumption of energy substantially. The technology would be adopted soon in compressor-based products such as air-conditioners turned out by the company, Mr. Daizo Ito said. Panasonic had taken initiatives to cut CO2 emissions by 2.40 lakh tonnes from its manufacturing activities in the Asia Pacific region over three years from April 2007 to March 2010.

For spreading environmental awareness, the company has launched ‘eco ideas’ campaign all over India. This would educate and enable consumers to make more informed decisions on their choice of products, Mr. Daizo Ito said. The eco-friendly initiatives were kick-started in Chennai in the presence of the actor Neha Dhupia, and other officials of the Panasonic group.
