NTPC-BHEL Power Projects Pvt. Ltd. (NBPPL), a 50:50 joint venture between NTPC and BHEL, on Thursday said it would set up its first power equipment manufacturing plant with an outlay of Rs. 6,000 crore at Mannavaram in Andhra Pradesh.

To be fully operational by 2014, the new plant, billed as the country’s first integrated plant making turbines, generators and boilers at one place, will have an annual capacity to manufacture up to 5,000 MW of equipment.

According to NTPC-BHEL Power Projects Chairman and Managing Director C. P. Singh, “This will be the first integrated plant in the country to manufacture turbines, generators and boilers under one roof.”

The Andhra Pradesh Government had allotted 750 acres last month for the project at Mannavaram in Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, about 120 km from Chennai.

The company will also execute power projects, while BHEL had already placed orders for the two plants it is setting up — a 726 MW gas-based power project for ONGC Tripura Company Ltd and 100 MW power plant for Assam Power Generating Company Ltd.
